“I’m twenty-six and I’ve never been kissed.” Staring into the bathroom mirror while making this brilliant comment is supposed to make it feel real. It doesn’t. Finding true love these days feels impossible to Kianna Ravencamp, only dysfunction surrounds her. Her sister’s married to an abusive husband and marriages she’s admired for years are falling apart. Maybe relationships like her parent’s don’t exist anymore. She dreams of true love and a family, but she’s never even been kissed. For her birthday, her best friend gives her a journal and dares her to follow her dream of songwriting and vocal lessons quickly follow. Kianna’s finally dared to dream big… if the three men in her life don’t get in her way. Nick Steele, her new vocal partner is flirtatious and charming. Derek Simpson, the new vocal coach is asking her out for coffee. Even Jason Payne, a childhood friend is acting odd. For the first time in her life, she will have to navigate dating and flirtation. Will her inexperience be her downfall? How will these relationships affect her songwriting career? Letting go and trusting God is the only answer that brings the path to real love and success.

She despairs of ever finding a man who she feels she can spend the rest of her life with, due to what she refers to the Dysfunction Junction of her town – the inability of couples to hold their relationships together. Most of the relationships around her are crumbling, or were never strong to begin with. One other thing holds Kianna back from a relationship, her weight. She's big, and believes that turns guys off. What chance does she have to find true love.I have known April Erwin for many years, close to ten, and have worked with her on this story for a lot of that time. Dysfunction Junction's Kianna Ravencamp exhibits all the same fears anyone in the dating scene feels – but she also has the fears of a young woman who doesn't have the slim, svelte body that is immortalized as perfect, and that, she feels, will keep a good man from noticing her good heart, deep faith, and fabulous sense of humor.Erwin has crafted a story on a level that anyone can identify with Kianna. Who among us hasn't struggled with relationships, whether we are dating or hitting a rough patch in our marriage. Ms. Erwin's characters are imperfect, like most people. They have their ups and downs. Nothing in their world goes exactly according to plan. The plot moves seamlessly throughout this tale. Sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph, chapter to chapter, the reader will find themselves falling more and more into Kianna's story. There is no bed hopping desperation, no bar nights where Mr. Right might be the worst Mr. Wrong, and definitely nothing more than what some scoff as old-fashioned morals as the main character struggles with her faith, her lack of a man, and how she has never had her first kiss.I highly recommend Dysfunction Junction for all lovers of romance, not just Christian romance or chick lit. Even those with a bent for other genres will love this simple yet complicated relationship novel.

Main character Kianna sets a very good example for young Christian women, while still being a relatable character. Exploring the themes of self-confidence, faith, and relationships, this book gives you a lot to think about.

DeSelms Once again April Erwin has done it again with a thoroughly engaging read with characters so enjoyable and realistic that they draw you in,making you sad when you are finished and making you greatly anticipate her next book!Kianna Ravencamp is 26 and has never been kissed.Although she yearns to find someone to love and be loved by, she is surrounded by dysfunctional and failed marriages, making her wonder if the marriage her parent's have is something that is obsolete. When Kianna is given a journal for her birthday and is encouraged by her friend to dream big and fulfill her lifelong dream of taking voice lessons and make a recording she does not imagine it will change her life so drastically. Now Kianna goes from being 26 and never kissed to have 3 guys interested in her. What is she to make of her handsome singing partner Nick's flirtatious attitude, her vocal coach interest in her or her dear friend childhood friend Jason acting odd around her? Whatever is going on in Kianna life she quickly finds that God is taking her in paths she did not imagine and He has a plan for her life.I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good Christian book with wonderful characters who you can relate to and a great content that really causes you to reflect on God's workings in your own life.

How do you build a champion? For the Golden State Warriors, it started with a vision.

That vision was of a team that Head Coach Steve Kerr described as having the magic that occurs when a group of players, coaches, and an organization come together and achieve something special. After 40 years of waiting, Golden State Warrior fans have witnessed that magic.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS is the Golden State Warriors official team commemorative, celebrating the historic games, plays, and personalities that brought an NBA championship back to the Bay Area. This is the story of how the Warriors came together to realize their potential, becoming a powder keg on offense and unleashing synchronized chaos on defense. The Warriors unique blend of efficiency on both ends of the floor resulted in a franchise-record 67-win season, a 16-game winning streak, and a 39-2 home record powered by the most electric crowd in basketball.

The best sports photographers in the business provide the definitive perspective on this record-setting season, chronicling such landmark events as the team s 26-point comeback win over the Boston Celtics, Klay Thompson s NBA-record 37 points in a single quarter, Stephen Curry s miracle 3-pointer to force overtime against the Pelicans in Game 3 of the Conference Quarterfinals, the team s relentless defensive stand against LeBron James one-man wrecking crew in the Finals, and the celebration of Warrior fans around the world as the final buzzer sounded and returned the Larry O Brien Trophy to the Bay Area.

With original contributions by team and media insiders, STRENGTH IN NUMBERS is a tribute to the sacrifice, determination, and, most importantly, teamwork that defined the magical NBA Champion Golden State Warriors.

Kara Tippetts's story was not a story of disease, although she lost her battle with terminal cancer. It was not a story of saying goodbye, although she was intentional in her time with her husband and four children. Kara's story was one of seeing God in the hard and in the good. It was one of finding grace in the everyday. And it was one of knowing "God with us" through fierce and beautiful friendship. In Just Show Up, Kara and her close friend, Jill Lynn Buteyn, write about what friendship looks like in the midst of changing life seasons, loads of laundry, and even cancer. Whether you are eager to be present to someone going through a difficult time or simply want inspiration for pursuing friends in a new way, this eloquent and practical book explores the gift of silence, the art of receiving, and what it means to just show up.The late Kara Tippetts was the author of The Hardest Peace and blogged faithfully at mundanefaithfulness.com. Cancer was only a part of Kara's story. Her real fight was to truly live while facing a crushing reality. Since her death in March 2015, her husband, Jason, is parenting their four children and leading the church they founded in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jill Lynn Buteyn lives in Colorado with her husband and two children. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from Bethel University. In 2013, she won the ACFW Genesis award for her inspirational novel, Falling for Texas (written as Jill Lynn).

Review “Kara Tippetts changed my life and thousands of others’ lives because she was a rare, singular voice who, when facing the end of her life here, had street cred to speak about what really matters. Open these rich, radical pages and give yourself the gift of friendship like you’ve always wanted and community like you’ve only hoped for—before it’s too late to just show up.”Ann Voskamp, New York Times bestselling author of One Thousand Gifts(Ann Voskamp)

Most honest book I've read By Frosty Just Show Up: The Dance of Walking Through Suffering Together by Kara Tippetts & Jill Lynn ButeynKara Tippetts was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. You may remember that during her illness she reached out to Brittany Maynard as a voice against assisted dying. Kara's story involves more than dying; her story reflects the life and love of family and friends.Kara and Jill joined forces to write about their difficult journey. These two young women shared a give and take relationship while Kara went through cancer treatment and eventually hospice. You might think Jill did all the giving and Kara all the taking, but that would be wrong. Through their fresh, new friendship each one learned from the other and depended on each other, as well as a slew of friends God set in their path.Just Show Up is the most honest book I've ever read. Both authors bared their souls and wrote about the hard times, the good days, the laughter, and the tears. Most of all they shared their journey as a transparent story for the reader to experience in full. Many of Jill's chapters are prefaced by the notes she wrote in reaction to Kara's, but never mailed. As a relatively new friend of Kara's she shares the insecurity she felt as she plodded her way through giving. Kara gave excellent and raw insight into what it's like to be the person receiving the gifts. As I read the book, I witnessed an amazing faith. This is not a my friend's sick, let's take a casserole sort of book. This is an inside look at what it's like to live out the end of life with a friend and the friend's family. This is a practical guide about when to call ahead, when to volunteer to watch the kids, and when to send a prayer up and remain quiet. As I read Just Show Up my heart went out to the women who circled around Kara and gave of themselves. But at the same time, I saw how these young mothers were blessed beyond measure because they trusted God and just showed up.I received Just Show Up free in exchange for a fair review.

Whether the problems are ours or it is those close to us who are suffering, trials abound. One of the greatest challenges comes when others are suffering, and we desire to help in some way but feel paralyzed, not knowing how.Just Show Up is a touching tribute to the relationships between Kara and her friends who walked through her hard with her. But more than that, it is a raw, honest look at what it means to bear one another's burdens. Showing up means more than bringing a meal, although that is helpful. There are many ways to show up for a friend in need. What if we're not good at that? What do we say? How do we deal with our own insecurity? Just Show Up digs into these questions and more, offering perspectives from both the one suffering and the one wanting to ease the pain. This is a beautiful picture of what community and showing up could look like if we were willing to be there for another, and if the one going through the hard time was willing to let others in. Each struggle will look different, and the community that surrounded Kara may not be possible in every situation. Just Show Up is an inspiring glimpse, and an encouragement, for each of us as we walk through life with others and attempt to be His hands and feet.(I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts expressed here are entirely my own.)

Cole Friendships are so very important in my life. As I look back through the years I can see the impact many friendships have made in my day to day life as well as my heart.Reading Just Show Up by Kara Tippetts and Jill Buteyn reminded me why it is so important to make friendships a priority in our lives as women. Kara and Jill were friends for only 6 months when Kara was diagnosed with cancer. At that point, Jill decided to be all in with Kara despite the early stages of their friendship. This is a very serious book, a very serious topic, but the writers write a beautiful story that is more encouraging than discouraging. I thought when I signed up for this book that it was all about being a good friend - showing up, being there when your friend needed you. This book is so much more than that!!Since both authors share their thoughts in each chapter you get a perspective into the one who is being the care-giving friend as well as the one receiving the care. This was very eye opening for me, to hear how Kara had to learn to ask for help and let others help her, but also how Jill had to figure out how to really do more than make offers of help. This book shows how when we show up we offer more than a meal or a house cleaning, we offer our hearts. At this point in my life I have two very close friends walking through terminal illnesses with super close friends - and it is hard. Even though it is not me doing the actual walking through this, my heart breaks for both of myf fiends. I cannot imagine walking through it with someone in my life, but it daily reminds me how fragile this life is. I am constantly reminded to not take other people for granted, and I try to remember to make priorities for people. In the end, the relationships we make here on Earth are one of the few things that is eternal.I really do recommend this book, it is a hard topic, but handles so beautifully. Jill shows us how to love a friend no matter how much it may shatter our hearts. Jill shows us how to love someone going through something really hard, and seeing how God will hold us up and encourage us through that.NOTE : I received a copy of Just Show Up in exchange for an honest review.

The 2005 Charleston Southern University football team was poised for their best season in school history. The Buccaneers earned a school-best 5-5 record in their preceding season. It was the first time the program had achieved a non-losing status. At feat with which everyone on campus was satisfied. Everyone, that is, except the team. A gap no less than 100 football fields stands between non-losing and winning. The endless buckets of sweat and the occasional splatter of blood were never shed for non-losing seasons. Those were for wins. The early morning runs and the sacrifice of a “normal college experience” wasn’t for mediocrity, they were for greatness. This unrest is what fueled us during the program’s most important offseason. We were stacked with offensive weapons and defensive playmakers. Emerging leaders like Eddie Gadson pushed the team to improve during 5:30 a.m. workouts and player-led practices throughout the spring. Our attitude blurred between cocky and confident. But that all changed when tragedy struck a few short weeks before the season was slated to begin. Our worlds were shocked and a wound was delivered to us like we had never experienced. As pride morphed to humility, our confidence gave way to something bigger: the ability to believe. The ability to believe in each other. The ability to believe that a football team can provide healing. The ability to believe, against all odds, that the last place team in the conference could have a chance to play for a championship. The ability to believe in something bigger than ourselves. This is the story of the 2005 CSU Bucs. This is how we learned to believe.

From the Author "One of my goals in life has been to write the book I've always wanted to read. The story of the 2005 Buccaneer football team is one of the greatest sports stories never told. All of my writing, from the blog to my short ebook 'Giving 2 Gain' has been in preparation for the release of Believe EG21 in the fall of 2015. It has been my privilege to write this book, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed creating it."

From the Inside Flap "This inspiring story is a must read for anyone searching for insight in overcoming challenges and disappointments. The story of the 2005 team and what they learned will positively impact your life." - Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, Charleston Southern University President  "The journey of that year had many ups and downs, but was navigated beautifully by the coaching staff and the team. The story needs to be told because of the impact it had on the university, the football program, the Gadsons and most importantly how Jesus Christ was at the center." Coach Jamey Chadwell, Charleston Southern University Head Football Coach "In more than 24 years of playing and coaching football, there still isn't a memory of mine that remotely comes close to that of the 2005 season. Through the tragic loss of a teammate, to the ultimate gain and redemption of a team, this is a story that needs to be discovered by the sports world."  - Collin Drafts, Charleston Southern University Quarterback, 2003-2006

About the Author Mike McCann played football at Charleston Southern University from 2004-2008, graduating in 2007 with a BA in Business Management and again in 2011 with his MBA. He is a writer, entrepreneur, coach, and philanthropist residing in Charleston, SC.

A story about how hard work and never ending faith prevails in the end By Mark S The 2005 CSU Buccaneers were in last place in the conference but worked hard through tragedy; an entertaining and emotional read chronicling the teams perseverance, hard work and never ending faith that led them to honor a fallen teammate in the most amazing way possible - to go on to play for the championship and ultimately win! A great read for football fans and non-sports fans alike that proves that faith in the face of adversity and heartache will always prevail. A heart-wrenching tribute, powerful message and entertaining football journey wrapped up in one enjoyable read.

The author does an amazing job of articulating what it truly means to be a part of something bigger than oneself. The story that transpires from tragedy to triumph is remarkable. I literally could not put it down. I would recommend this book to any of the "true sports fans" out there. This is a must read!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Amazing read! By Amazon Customer Mike McCann told the story of a football team, but he also told the story of an athletic department, a university, and a community. Although not a football player, I lived that story in so many ways, being a student-athlete going through similar routines, sharing dorms with two starting defensive players, being friend with so many other team members, and most importantly jumping that fence to run on the field and celebrate with everyone. All that said, I firmly want to believe the beauty of this book lies on the fact that it doesn't matter whether or not you attended CSU, knew the players, or lived any part of it. It doesn't even matter whether or not you like or understand football. This book is just a real tribute to a great player in Eddie Gadson, his family, and his brothers! Congratulations Mike. Once again, your humility and genuine personality are evident in this work!
