Jackpotting with a genuine wrestling legend By Craig Peters Bill has been a dear friend of mine since I started working at the Pro Wrestling Illustrated family of magazines in Freeport, New York, in 1981. I was with them for 15 years, during which the office moved to Rockville Center, NY, and later to Ambler, Pennsylvania.Bill and I spent many days on the road together (particularly in the mid-80s) photographing matches, interviewing wrestlers, and appearing on television. During that time, I not only got to become friends with Bill (our wives are good friends, too), I got a front-row seat for seeing how Bill operates. It was always both entertaining and fascinating to see what he did and how he did it. There's simply no one else like him.Bill was (and remains) one of the most well-known and influential people in the pro wrestling business. During the heyday of the PWI mags, he was the liaison between the magazines and the performers in the ring (and the businessmen behind the scenes). The coverage he gave to regional promotions made national stars out of many performers (and this was in the days before cable). He was the reason Jerry Lawler feuded with Andy Kaufman and appeared on David Letterman's show.For decades, he has been living the life that any serious wrestling fan would dream of having. What fan wouldn't want to sit with Bill for an afternoon and get to know him better and listen to him tell stories about his time on the road?This book lets readers do exactly that.Many of the stories in this book are familiar to me; indeed, I've heard him tell some of them a dozen or more times. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great, casual laid-back read! By R.L. Stump, Jr. I started reading Mr. Apter's book last week on my Kindle. It has been a joy to read it. Mr. Apter's writing style is geared to the "Everyman." You can hop around and read the chapters of the book in any particularly order, which is fine by me. Chapters and chapters of stories and case studies of pro wrestling that truly show the point of view of an unsung hero of the pro wrestling business. He is truly grateful for all of his pro wrestling experiences and that is obvious with this fantastic, relaxing read!

About the Author Sir Francis Younghusband is universally known for his forcible entry into Lhasa in 1902. But his adventures commenced much earlier. After mountaineering in Manchuria, he began in 1887 his exciting journey through the heart of Asia, across the Gobi Desert and Chinese Turkestan to Kashgar and Yarkand, and then across the Himalayas to Srinagar. He was sent by the British to investigate Hunza raids on Kirghiz territory; he went on his famous expedition to the Pamirs, only to be summarily ordered out by the Russians; and in 1898 he was appointed political agent in the disturbed Chitral (in present-day Pakistan).

The book used for the copies is marked with the stamp of a library in Hyderabad, so not even original documents have been used for photo-copying. The quality of the images is particularly poor as they are simply black and white copies rather than greyscale copies. So much of the detail of the original documents have been lost. I almost wish I had not ordered it - just the story of the endeavours of the various team members will keep it in my book-shelf.

Epic on Mount Everest By Peter Higginbotham A fascinating look back to a time when the support of hundreds of porters etc was available to small groups of mountaineers. It illustrates how approaches have changed and is a "must read" for anyone interested in Himalayan mountaineering over the decades. Buy it, read it and drift back in time!

It was a gift from my father and I remember that each page and photographs transported me to the Tibet and motivated me to dream about how was Mallory expedition to the Everest mountain. This book teaches me to love to climb mountains and the human nature.

Newlyweds Afloat is the love story that happens after "I do By Betsy Green Newlyweds Afloat is the love story that happens after "I do," when a couple begins the real life challenges of building a life together. In this case, those challenges are exemplified by the unusual environment of living on a boat. It's not all smooth sailing (sorry), and the candor with which the author writes about the adjustments and adaptations she and her husband make in their new life together is refreshing.

Adapt, Overcome, Improvise By Mark Child The book ostensibly (and beautifully) tells the story of an extraordinary courtship and the even more extraordinary life lived on the trawler, Mazurka: the floating home to Felicia and her husband Mark.There are stories of the practical nature on how to live in such small quarters, how to stay warm in the winter and the on-going, never ending cycle of repair and maintenance of the boat itself. Each of those stores is told with wit and a clear-eyed elegance that is the author's greatest gift. But this isn't really about life on a boat - though it takes place on a boat. It is about life itself, about challenging yourself to change, to adapt, overcome and improvise a new life. It is, of course, about love: a big love, an honest thing, and the trials and rewards of seeing where it might take you. If you can bear the last passage without believing in miracles, then no miracles will ever exist for you.I know nothing about boats. I know a little something about love and adventure. Reading this book has cracked that view a bit wider, with a generous spirit, inviting the reader in to take a place at the table to overhear this family's origin story . 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Best boat ride you'll ever read By Amazon Customer I first heard a snippet from Felicia Schneiderhan's book on the radio, but missed the ending. Desperate for the resolution to a somewhat frightening story about her son falling in the water, I visited her blog to finish the segment. Then, I had another teaser from Amazon when I purchased the book... again, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the rest of the story. Finally got it in the mail and read it every chance I got while nursing my newborn and after putting my kids to bed. Felicia puts us right there on the boat and also lets us in to her beautiful, sensitive, observant mind.
