After the funeral, they go to the memorial service held at the dead woman's residence in the exclusive assisted care facility Belle Mede. When Cissy learns that Bebe died in her pajamas she thinks that death listed as natural causes was really a homicide because the victim always slept in the nude.The facility is run by Annabelle who knew Andy when they went to an upscale camp for blue blooded rich kids. Annabelle and Cissy's daughter were close friends, two misfits who clung together for security. Cissy maneuvers Annabelle into letting her and Andy investigate Bebe's's death by posing as the new resident and her niece but on their first day in Bebe's home, another woman close to Cissy is found dead. Cissy believes that Sarah Lee Seville was also a homicide victim because her make up was smudged, something that she would fix immediately in case someone saw her. At first thinking her mother's grief is making her crazy, Andy finally comes around to her view point because there are too many links between the two dead women. Nobody, least of all Andy, thought that Cissy would be in danger from the killer.Susan McBride infuses her exciting amateur sleuth mystery with a gallows's humor that is both appropriate and funny in a macabre sort of way. Although Andy thinks her mother is wrong in her description that murder took the lives of her two friends, the love she feels for Cissy compels her to find out if there is any evidence to support her theory . 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Witty & Humorous By Nancie A big cheer for Susan McBride and The Lone Star Lonely Hearts Club! The third installment in the Debutante Dropout books is a great addition to this series. I love the author's witty writing style and her true to life, yet, quirky characters she has created. The great dialog between Andy and Cissy, and humorous observations, provide plenty of laughs as they go through a slight role reversal of mother and daughter in this book.Cissy has a much larger role in this book than the previous two, which I was delighted to see with this character. Cissy is convinced her dearest friends were murdered because of the evidence she discovered, a nightgown and smudged lipstick. Andy, however, is not convinced of anything, except that her mother may have just flipped out under the stress of finding her friends dead. Andy does her best to humor her mother until the tests prove her friends deaths were from natural causes, while Cissy pushes forward to investigate with help from a reluctant Andy. When things aren't adding up like they should, Andy begins to realize Cissy might be closer to a truth no one wanted to believe, which could place Cissy right in the cross hairs of the killer.Susan McBride takes us on a great ride into her world, giving fans and new readers of the Deb Dropout Series a fun, often hysterical, and exciting journey for us to enjoy.

By L Smith In the 3rd Debutante Dropout Mystery, Andrea Kendricks Blevins (aka Andy) feels even more pressure than usual from her wealthy Texas mother, Cissy Blevins. Normally, the pressure facing Andy has to do with the fact that she shuns high society, and lives without her trust fund. Always trying to marry her off to a rich suitor, Cissy spends a lot of time worrying about her independent daughter. But when one of Cissy's friends is found dead, Cissy enlists the help of her daughter to prove that the death was not from natural causes as the retirement community claims. Adding insult to injury, Andy soon learns that an old camp buddy, Annabelle, is the proud owner of the swanky community. Annabelle begs Andy to get Cissy off the case, and puts Andy is a difficult situation. And when Cissy goes deep undercover, will a killer be unmasked or will Cissy find herself as the latest victim?I really enjoy this fun series! It is nice to see the relationship between Andy and Cissy grow with each new installment, and I have enjoyed watching Andy become more understanding of her mother's point of view. Some of the mystery itself was a bit unbelievable, but it did not take away from the story itself. For example, I found it a bit implausible that a retirement community could have a doctor on staff that could rule a death "natural causes" or not, especially with more than one death so close together. It seemed to me that Annabelle would have been more than willing to have an autopsy done just to prove no foul play was involved, which added to the mystery. I was kept guessing almost to the end, and still have some questions that I believe could be answered in future books. There is also a hint of a romance for Cissy, which could be a welcome addition to the series.The first book in the series is called "Blue Blood". Enjoy!

About the Author Louisa May Alcott (November 29, 1832 – March 6, 1888) was an American novelist best known as author of the novel Little Women and its sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys. Raised by her transcendentalist parents, Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott in New England, she grew up among many of the well-known intellectuals of the day such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau. Nevertheless, her family suffered severe financial difficulties and Alcott worked to help support the family from an early age. She began to receive critical success for her writing in the 1860s. Early in her career, she sometimes used the pen name A. M. Barnard.

A Garland for Girls is one of her better books for girls. It is a quick read and a bit pedantic at points, but the stories are uplifting and enjoyable.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Unfortunately quite unsatisfactory By Suzanne S. Barnhill I read this book on Kindle and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the last book published by Alcott before her untimely death, written while she was ill. The stories are very sweet and sentimental and old-fashioned and moralizing and altogether delightful. Consequently, I wanted a hard copy to give to my daughter, for her to read now and someday to share with her daughter (now two years old).This one looked like a good deal, but it is not. Whoever designed it overlooked the cast-iron publishing convention that odd pages are always recto (right-hand) pages and even pages always verso (left-hand). Almost every page in this book is on the wrong side, beginning with the title page (on the left), up to the point where page 115 is entirely omitted, which at least gets the book back on track--up to the point where page 128 is missing.Since it is a facsimile, one can't complain too much about the image quality (some pages are just barely legible), but I think it is deceptive to label it "Digitally Remastered," and the omission of (at least) two pages makes it much less useful. I won't be ordering any more "Forgotten Books" editions.

Louisa May Alcott's writing is just as entertaining, simple, and good today as it was when first published. The virtues and faults of her characters are true and true to life, and the virtues she highlights are just as useful today as they were then. I also enjoy her recurring theme of the simplest, smallest kindness being able to do tremendous good. We often forget the power of the small, and it would do many people good to be reminded of it. Thumbs-up all the way through!

By Craig dos Santos I read the Short Game Solution by Siekmann, the A Swing by Leadbetter, and surprisingly, this one is my favorite.I'd never heard of Brandon Stooksbury before, but the book is well thought out, and as much as you can learn golf from a book... this actually improved my game. I'd recommend it.

Klebba At 344 pages, I'd say just over half of the book dives into all of the Super Bowl games (with images and details), key players and coaches. That's for my husband. Then it gets into what I like even more: what makes the Super Bowl special for people who like football all right, but are just as into the commercials, halftime, and other fun stuff surrounding the game. There are so many beautiful photos and illustrations that make this book more interesting to read, or even just glance through. There are fun facts and a lot to break up all the pages. The hardcover is a nice texture, too, like a football. Gold foil is a nice touch! Overall, a nice addition to the coffee table!

Dominique saw the slickness of MeKeisha and warned Sha'lena...she wasn't messed up about cutting MeKeisha off and out.MeKeisha was a snake.This story of naivete,backstabbing and a long time secret that was kept. I found myself more interested with the tension and story of Ms.Mc Williams and Ms. Mc Vaughn's animosity towards each other than the storyline that was being told. I feel more should have went into that than what was put into Sha'lena's dumbness and MeKeisha's snakeness.MeKeisha was a snake.Why did the title of the book and the author's name suddenly appear in the middle of paragraphs ans sentences? I don't know but it threw me off.2.85

I was hooked from the very beginning, Mekiesha, was one of the wild jealous best friends that wanted everything her way. Plus she didn't mind getting her hand dirty to do so, she was very scheming, and grimyI can't believe how naive Sha’Lena was after all those years of everyone especially Dominique letting her know of the individuals she shouldn't trust. Instead she dismissed it, and still were around the individuals who were betraying her.I'm glad Dominique finally found love because her first love was beyond crazy. She's a real friend, and sister that sees right through people.It sad how when one person came around havoc seemed to follow. When the truth was revealed my jaw dropped because I would of never excepted the outcome, yet the saying goes that karma a bitch. This was a amazing read, ill recommend to anyone.

Hutter The story is about three girls who have been friends since childhood. Sha'lena, the un-jaded and childlike one. Dominique was the reasonable and honest one. MeKeisha was untrustworthy, disreputable, and cruel. The book had several scenarios going on, but I think it was a brilliant example of jealousy among friends, keeping your enemies closer and the meaning of karma. I think it was a good storyline and had sweet characters and deceitful characters, which made the book interesting. This is a fast paced plot full of drama, intrigue, romance, sexual innuendos, and greed. Nothing Can Come Between Us is an exciting good read!
