BOOK SUMMARY : Natasha: " I was the "perfect" pastor's kid or so my parents tried to make me. I'd made good grades, and got accepted into a respected college in the US to study art and advertising design. It was their choice of a career for me and I was to become a focused and financially independent woman. But I always had a hidden, rebellious streak in me, and a fire inside that caused me to push the boundaries a little wider just to be free. I had my own dream life planned out as a successful international recording artist, and unknown to them I'd already been offered a lucrative recording contract. I would travel the world and sing in sold out shows, thrilling my fans with my musical talent. Then maybe I'd get married much later, after producing about three platinum albums and making my multi-millions. Any man I married would become a part of my success and it would be a life everyone back home would envy and respect! So why am I now an unhappily married, frumpy, kindergarten teacher, still living on Derrien Island six years later? It all changed when I met... him." From one of the Caribbean's best contemporary romance authors and storytellers on african american romance and black love, Annalisa Simon, comes the second book, a full-length, standalone novel, in her intensely passionate and highly acclaimed Derrien Island romance series. CAN A HEART TRULY FORGET THE ONE IT LOVES? Only a strong woman knows what it means to take her life back and to live again! Like a dying woman, feeling trapped in a life she no longer recognized, Natasha Nicholls believed that if she didn’t escape, she would go crazy or simply give up her will to go on. Losing her lifelong dream of becoming a singer and an artist due to an unplanned pregnancy and a rushed marriage slowly plunged her into a life of unrelenting depression and regret that eroded the intimate relationship she once shared with her husband Marcus. It doesn't help one bit that he’s joined the ranks of the successful international best selling authors with million of fans. Not just that but he's a restaurant owner with a life marked by success and recognition while hers is a repeating cycle of defeat and frustration. When the opportunity to reclaim her dream is offered to her once again, she must choose between her marriage and her heart’s deepest desires. She must choose what she is willing to leave behind and the cost she is willing to pay to have it! Can a story of forgotten dreams that bears the marks of bitter disappointment become a story of passionate love and desire once again? From the first chapter the characters pulled me into their lives and had me eager to learn more. I went to sleep in the wee hours of the morning as a result of this page turner. This book is the second of the author's works I've read and I found that in this story the characters had even more depth. I would recommend this book to anyone but I think it could be especially good for young persons looking to get married and the newly married. I really enjoy the romance between the characters as well as the moral it provides.

I was totally caught up in Marcus' and Natasha's story and was rooting for their love to stay strong and win out in the end! I love that the author gave us a strong male character who was not afraid to cry and was willing to put his ego aside to fight to regain the love of his woman. I can't wait to read the other books in the series!!

Billie (aka “Ducati”) is known as much for her extraordinary beauty as for the sexy yellow Ducati motorcycle she rides through the mean streets of Los Angeles. Tough, talented, and self-assured, Billie’s used to doing things her way―but that was before love threw an oil slick in the road and spun her life into chaos.

Billie’s first problem is simple: she’s pregnant.

Her second problem is that her lover, Keith, is still married.

Keith has some “things” to deal with, and the people in his life are dark and duplicitous enough to take matters into their own hands, determined to keep Billie from having her baby. Billie suddenly finds herself confronted, attacked, run off highways, threatened, and shadowed. Keith still has ties to his manipulative wife, Carmen, and he adores his fifteen-year-old daughter, Destiny. Will he do the right thing by his new family, or stand by his old one?

Soon all eyes shift as everyone finds themselves desperately chasing Destiny, a troubled and deceptive girl dancing on the edge of womanhood. When the rubber meets the road, all the madness with Billie, Carmen, and Keith comes to a head. Everyone’s fighting dirty for what they want…and they’re all willing to destroy their enemy or go down in flames to get it.

Chasing Destiny, by Eric Jerome Dickey

From Publishers Weekly Dickey's (Genevieve) latest melodrama rides with Los Angeles's rough-and-tumble motorcycle crowd and has his signature sultry prose and African-American cast, but presents a surprisingly harsh attitude toward female characters. Billie (aka Ducati), a beautiful and self-assured biker, finds herself between the rubber and the road when her unemployed lover, Keith, confesses he's returning to his wife, Carmen, for the sake of their daughter-right after Billie informs him she's pregnant with his child. Carmen, a shady lawyer, will stop at nothing to reconcile her marriage, offering Billie money to vamoose and even threatening her own daughter, 15-year-old Destiny. Destiny, however, has her own problems: angry at her parents for separating, she rebels by sneaking out with the wrong crowd. When she's drugged, robbed and raped, a humiliated Destiny decides to run away rather than face her parents. By midnovel, Carmen, Billie and Keith are, yes, chasing Destiny and deploying dirty tricks to get what they want. With an emphasis on vulgarity and violence, the book is lively, but disappointing: rather than showcase what brings women together, Dickey hyperbolizes what tears them apart, advancing a caricature of women as troubled souls who, when hurt, hurt others. Review Dickey is a master at writing about women and what they want and how they want it. (Publishers Weekly)

From the Back Cover "Dickey’s fans flock to his readings . . . He’s perfected an addictive fictional formula." —THE NEW YORK TIMES "Dickey has earned his place as king of African-American fiction for women." —ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY "Dickey’s aplomb in granting his characters the freedom to hit, holler, and ride their steamy, explicit passions will clinch this book’s popularity." —LIBRARY JOURNAL

Part of being a fan of someone's writing is allowing them to evolve as a writer and following them faithfully down the paths they choose to travel. I enjoyed this book tremendously. The characters were dramatic, well-developed and very real. I particularly liked the way the characters' lives all intertwined...it is a small world. The ending was classic and not typical. I hope this is not the last we read of Destiny, Billie, and Carmen. Eric Jerome Dickey has outdone himself, AGAIN!!!

Bowles Billy aka Ducati is a gorgeous "biker chick" famous for tooling around LA on her yellow Ducati. Billy is a looker, has posed on her motorcycle in a thong for a well-known magazine, and is desired by both males and females alike. So why would she waste her time in a toxic romantic relationship? Well, she does; and when the novel opens, she is sitting across the table from her not-yet-divorced lover Keith, announcing that she is pregnant with his child. Keith is less than enthused; beset with financial woes and all of the legal haranguing that can accompany trying to divorce a wife who doesn't want to be divorced, especially when she is a lawyer, Keith is facing eviction from his apartment. So while Billy is busy breaking the news of her pregnancy...Keith is trying to figure out how to break the news of his decision to reconcile with his wife....for the good of daugher Destiny, of course. Keith's news sends Billy over the edge; and what follows are a series of confrontations between the two women almost too embarrassing to recall. And when daughter Destiny is assaulted and runs away from home, Billy finds out exactly what evil may lurk in the hearts of many...she is stalked, her home vandalized, and her life threatened. Billy finds out the hard way the lengths to which some people will go to maintain hearth and home.Without a single, in my opinion, likeable character in the whole saga, it is only Dickey's ability to weave a tale and keep readers turning the pages that render this novel the five stars it so rightly deserves.DYB

After I finish one, I'm forced to impatiently wait for word of the next offering. Once a new book comes out, I go to my local book seller (on the release date of course), grab the first one on the shelf, buy it, then find a quiet place to get my fix. But inevitably, before I read the first sentence, no, the first word I can't help but wonder; will this be it? It's a law of nature: What goes up must come down. Has ERIC JEROME DICKEY finally reached his pinnacle? Will this book be able to live up to the sky high standards he has set? Will my favorite author finally let me down?Well, after reading the first few sentences of Chasing Destiny, I knew that if ERIC JEROME DICKEY falls from grace it won't be holding this book. Chasing Destiny is a fast paced, mentally satisfying journey into the lives of Billie, Keith, Carmen and Destiny. For 400+ pages they live, breath, love and screw up in ways seldom seen on the pages of a book. I'm telling you, they seemed real. With a cast of supporting characters shoring up the winding and mysterious plot, Chasing destiny made my cheeks burn from laughter and my heart ache with empathy. This book may just be this author's best book to date. I gobbled up the pages and now once again I'm saddened by the thought of waiting another year for his next book.My only criticism is that while satisfying, the ending left me with a few questions. I wonder if for the first time readers will be blessed with a sequel. Basically, I'm just saying that when it comes to writers like Eric Jerome Dickey, the whole five star rating system thing gets sort of blurry. When a person writes at the level he does, you no longer base the number of stars you give him on comparisons to the work of other authors. He's on another plane with writers like Terry MacMillan, BeBe Moore Campbell and Colin Channer; sitting amongst the stars in the literary sky, Eric Jerome Dickey sits the highest on a throne of books as the King of African American Fiction (at least in my opinion). His work is uncomparable to any writer's. So when deciding how many stars he deserves you must compare him only to himself and his prior works. Even with that, I still give chasing Destiny 5 stars.

Lorendo and Ringer--A Great Pair By Big D Excellent thoroughly and lovingly researched book on a man/coach/athlete the likes of which we will never see again...It is a story of Auburn, yes, but it is also a story of Southern Football, in its most colorful, wildest, most memorable times.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Memories By Walt I describe this book as a "mini history" of Auburn football. I read 3/4 of the book before I could put it down and go to sleep. It brought back many good memories of growing up in Alabama. There are hundreds of individual stories which all smoothly fit into one well researched book.

By martha ezzard Ringer's well-researched story of this legendary football hero is a page turner! In colorful detail, he has captured the spirit of this extraordinary man and the enormous impact he had on the lives of so many inside and outside of the world of sports.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Same old By Ali This is a typical Cathy Kelly - you can pretty much guess each characters storyline and where they'll end up, as soon as you start reading. No surprises along the way, just an easy read for when you don't feel like thinking too much. Certainly not a 'can't put down' type of book, in fact I found it all so similar to all of her other books that I got a bit bored and put the book down for too long - kept picking it up again and thinking "now who were you again"? when a name was mentioned. Not an awful read, but just very predictable and 'nice' ie: not really good or really bad, as I said - a good time filler for when you don't feel like thinking and just want to fill in some time.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing By Frances L I was very disappointed in this book. It read like a book written just to make it another book churned out for this author. I will not buy without sampling this author's book next time.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing By BOOK WORM This was a most disappointing Cathy Kelly book. Seemed like a number of short stories bandied together to make a novel. I have read everything she has ever written but was not at all impressed with this one, can only hope the next book has a bit more substance.

PDF Ebook Sea Green, by Alice Smithers

A novel of new beginnings with complicated twists, drawing on figures from the past, the wonders of the mid-Wales landscape and intriguing romantic association, interleaved by the world of commerce, antiques and a lot of tea drinking: An impulsive Georgia Middleton launches phase two of her adult life, selecting an entirely new framework - city to countryside, landlocked to shoreline, married to single… Securing a modest Victorian villa on the edge of Cardigan Bay, expectant of a pleasant new existence beside the sea, she instead faces a perilous tailspin of events. She accepts a post with an unremarkable business in a small Welsh town and becomes unwittingly embroiled in political undercurrents. Turning to local activity for inspiration and new associations, this too brings complication. These conspiracies are strengthened by a stranger with an unaccountable obsession of her movements and not least, by her own unavoidable attraction to a casual acquaintance of cavalier mentality and burning charisma. Best put the kettle on...

Life after 40 and after divorce in beautiful coastal Wales By Dolphin A contemporary story with a large cast of characters offering a snapshot of life in a small community in West Wales. Once her son and daughter have left home for university and their own independent lives, Georgia's marriage to Greg folds undramatically. Newly divorced, she leaves behind her old life in congested Birmingham for the wild beauty of a Welsh coastal village. She has landed an excellent job and soon becomes involved with her work colleagues and the strained relationships of her new position, although making personal friends proves a slow process. During a shopping expedition to the larger centre of Aberystwyth, Georgia meets the owner of a furniture shop who makes a strong impression on her, being infuriating and charming in equal measure. The classic premise for most romcoms. However, the author drops the romantic thread and, instead, takes the reader into a complex series of new storylines involving Georgia's new social circle, when she decides to join the Bronbeg amateur theatrical group.Sea Green has some slow patches, but I found it charming and when the action gets going at the half-way mark, it become very engaging. It is pleasant to hear a fresh and different voice. Alice Smithers is not afraid to craft sentences where the subject changes midstream, or the verb is left out, or a word is used in a novel context, challenging the reader to pay attention and follow the sometimes sparse and quirky style.Characterization is good but I would have preferred a little more early detail to flesh out the protagonists at least. I find it difficult to sympathize with them and share their feelings when the main characters are barely sketched out. It takes a third of the book to define the heroine in a way that makes sense to me. However, the device allows the author to surprise us with the evolution of some characters who turn out to be very different from how they appear at the outset. The full spectrum of human traits is explored, including a particularly unsavoury personality, and a lot of petty and vainglorious behaviour which makes for some hilarious situations. The dialogue is realistic and relevant and the story is advanced by the omniscient narrator. This allows us to follow each character and penetrate their thoughts although I found Georgia a bit too bland and “vanilla”; some of the minor players have more spark even if slightly typecast. There is also an occasional lack of continuity as the author struggles to keep all the plates spinning. Despite some minor stylistic faults, Sea Green is an engaging read and I found myself looking forward to the next instalment. There is a key scenario which I, personally, find difficult to accept and this false note takes me out of the story a little. Others may disagree. The book contains no unpleasant elements, violence or graphic sex, although there is a fair bit of naughty behaviour and, my word, do these people like to drink! An intelligent story with a satisfying conclusion, which I very much enjoyed reading. I particularly liked the message that life can be exciting regardless of your age, and there was a bit of the generational role-reversal that fans of “Absolutely Fabulous” will appreciate. A very solid first novel.

By Karen Mom of Three t is thoughtfully written with characters you can relate too, a comedy of errors and gossip and even a great romance. A very good read, though not technically a cozy it does feel a lot like one. I loved the cover of the book and I do recommend this lovely book.

By Under The Covers Book Blog ~Reviewed by ANGELA & posted at Under the Covers Book BlogKim Law’s heroes from her Turtle Island series have the knack for riling up my emotions. Mark from Ex on the Beach did it and now Lucas in this story. Luckily, Ms. Law knows how to reel me right in making me fall deeper in love with her hero.Lucas is a single parent working full time who is on Turtle lsland to compete for the Yummy Santa contest. Roni and the rest of her friends are hosting this competition and well, this can dampen on the undeniable attraction she and Lucas have for each other. Will they let this stop them from having an affair? Nah, their attraction is strong , and not even their author could’ve stopped them if she wanted to. =)I actually liked Lucas from the start. I thought he was a stand up guy, very sweet and most definitely sexy. I love that he pursued her even when she tried to stay away from him. He knew how she felt and he didn’t want to let her go. My only problem with him was that there was a time when he demanded a bit too much from Roni a bit too soon. Knowing that he came with an instant family and Roni a jaded single gal; he should understand her fears and maybe give her some slack. Lucas does make it up in the end. He won my heart back leaving me with a happy tear or two.I didn’t expect Roni to end up with Lucas. From the last novel, I thought she would end up with Mark’s friend. It worked out well because Roni truly needed a man like Lucas. She’s been alone for quite some time , and it’s time she falls for someone who is stable and ready for a long term commitment. I’m glad she finally got her happy-ever-after.Next up is a novella called Two Turtle Island Doves. I will be about Kelly, Lucas’ friend who is also a contestant for the Yummy Santa Contest. There was a clear introduction of him in this book and from what I gather; he and his wife were in the middle of a divorce. Looks like his story will be about second chances and Christmas themed. I’m excited to get to it! I love second chances.Review provided by publisher

One reads to the end just to see which of the half dozen or so standard endings the author chooses.I liked the story, setting, and most characters. I did find myself skipping over page after page after page of soft porn, though. When the sex scenes are 3, 4, and 5 pages long, it's too much for my tastes. I don't read romance tales to get myself all hot and bothered, but for the story itself, and I felt this did not balance well. It did not make me want to read others in the series.
