Book Review: I Don’t wear Sunscreen by Kavipriya Moorthy By Reshma Ranjan Book Review: I Don’t wear Sunscreen by Kavipriya MoorthyA nice read: A psychological play coming into picture. Some suspense leaves you wanting to know what next. The friendship between Laksha and Pallavi is depicted nicely, middle class family home and the values, how education is held at high pedestal, the crunch they would feel to use air travelling too frequently. The strong mother and a caring father, everything fell into place.Though few ambiguities left me wondering. For morehttp://reshmaranjanbookreviews.blogspot.com

By Kaarthika I don’t wear sunscreen – A simple yet powerful story which revolves around the life of Laksha. The author of the book is Ms. Kavipriya and this is her debut book. And I would like to whole heartedly congratulate her for such great work in her first novel itself. I having read many debut writers work, I felt Kavipriya’s work as a cut above rest! There is a lot of maturity in this girl’s writing which is reflected in many instances throughout the novel. The novel gyrates around various human emotions starting from friendship, mother-daughter relationship, joy, love, betrayal, stress, guilt, etc. How these emotions play in the life of young Laksha is captured in a very realistic manner.Laksha for whom life was so far the best, suddenly feels everything going out of her hands. Even before she understood what was happening to her she falls prey for it and becomes victim of Post traumatic stress disorder. And of course everyone have their dark days but at the end of the tunnel there is always light. And that is what exactly happens to Laksha. The theme of this novel in a single line could be, Life is a Roller coaster ride.Lots of phrases and dialogues in this novel implies so much thoughts about life which gives you goosebumps as you read and that is one biggest turn on.Turn offs are that the novel is quite slow paced in the start which makes you feel bored a little. But the later part compensates for that. And other turn off is that maybe the author wanted to show positivity about life by showing how can we overcome the negativity in life but at the end of the novel I pondered more about the negativity than the goodness. But the best part of the novel was the editing and proof reading. Though this novel was self published, it had very minimal errors and the editing was so good. I personally appreciate the extra efforts taken by the author for that.Overall, a slow paced feel good book packed with emotions.
