Relive the glory years of Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers with the nostalgic new memoir, Green & Gold Memories.
Author Roger Dier seamlessly blends poignant childhood memories growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the breathless excitement of everyone's favorite hometown team. A portrayal of Green Bay in the 1960s, Dier’s memoir tackles everything from family dynamics and school shenanigans to his days playing youth sports and building lifelong friendships with the Lemerond brothers.
But Green & Gold Memories orbits around the powerful gravity of Vince Lombardi’s football teams and the community-wide impact that the Green Bay Packers had under Lombardi's now legendary reign during the 1960s. Eventually leading his team to five National Football League titles, two Super Bowl wins, and the famous 1967 NFL Championship nicknamed "The Ice Bowl," Lombardi didn't just unite a team—he brought together a community.
Dier reveals never-before-told stories about the beloved coach through extensive interviews with those in the know, including the late Palmiro (Paul) Mazzoleni and Chuck Mercein—a player who fans might remember as the "Hero of the Ice Bowl."
Whether you're a diehard football fan or couldn't tell a quarterback from a running back, Green & Gold Memories is sure to warm your heart—and ignite the sports fan within.

Eames Green and Gold Memories brought me back to the west side of Green Bay and my childhood growing up in titletown along with the author and many of his cast of characters. But I think this book is much more than Roger's memoirs. It's really more of an extended look back at growing up in a blue collar midwestern town when kids could roam much more feely and experience the kinds of adventures that are no longer possible. Roger deftly captures the pulse of a town whose collective hearts beat to the rhythm of Lombardi's championship teams and uses those teams and their success as the musical score for the real story of his own coming-of-age. Channeling equal parts Jean Shepherd and Shirley Povich, Dier invites the reader into the crazy adventures, lifelong friendships and sometime turbulent family dynamics that millions of baby boomers experienced as they all wrestled with growing up in a rapidly changing world that experienced advances in civil rights, the sexual revolution, the Vietnam war, and the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK all made up close and personal through the new medium of television. G&GM takes you along as the author revisits all the good and not-so-good memories of school, teachers, classmates, the neighborhood gangs, the bullies, the drinking, the smoking, the music, and the sports. Back yard sports. Little league sports. City park sports. High school sports. Sneaking into the stadium to watch the game sports. But mostly it takes you along on Roger's journey into adulthood and away from Green Bay, profoundly shaped by all of it but free to become the man of his choosing.

Green & Gold Memories Become Your Own Memories By Jeff Roznowski Roger Dier and Green & Gold Memories provides an exceptional illustration of growing up and coming of age in 1960s middle America. As a product myself of Green Bay and that era, and as a Green Bay Packer fan, Roger was not only describing his memories but also my memories and likely those of many children in the pre-technology age. Roger vividly captured the simplicity of friends jumping on their bikes, marking their favorite territory and exploring, learning and growing. He also memorably dissects a child's loving and often complicated relationships with his parents and siblings, loving and fighting, defending and challenging.Intersperced within his boyhood hijinks, Roger interweaves tales of the legendary Lombardi-led Packers. He captures the love of players for a coach and the love of a city for its team, impressively offering untold stories about long forgotten but important contributors such as Chuck Mercein. The writing of the two parallel paths of growing up and football is a seamless and often connected weave, providing the reader with double the entertainment.Roger has an artistic talent for painting with his prose, visually capturing the environment of the moment, making you an invisible witness to his memories, much like the invisible man in a game of cicero. If you know what a davenport is or what sweet rolls are, if you remember being tuned, if you were ever in a fight or hugged your mom, if you have a favorite team you cheer for, Roger Dier's Green & Gold Memories will bring constant smiles to your face and unearth your own long forgotten memories.

What a great snapshot of history and autobiographical account of boyhood adventures culminating into adulthood. Roger has an extraordinary talent of weaving threads of memories into a fine tapestry-a colorful story of life, lessons and love. A gentle smile held my face from the first to the last word, sans a few stories in between of which you will understand upon reading. Lombardi, the Golden Years, the Packers, baby boomer real life experiences are expertly portrayed in this book. You don't need to be a Packer fan nor a resident of Green Bay to appreciate the boyhood tales and lessons learned (by the author and his readers) in this book. Each chapter is worth more than the price of this book. "...A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile...."
