I loved Grayson & Avery in The Promises We Keep, when their relationship was "Vanilla" and pure but I loved them even more in The O'Conners when they spiced it up!!!This was a story of growth, heartache, moving forward and it was done very well....My hubby and I are making a "List" ;)

Martin's debut novel, The Promises We Keep. I fell in love with them then and this novella is their time in the spotlight as newlyweds.Avery and Grayson have fought through thick and thin to be together. Marriage will prove to be no different, but the great part about it when you're married as Mr. and Mrs. O'Conner? When you get mad, you fight and you fight naked! That's fair. right? A lot of things could be worked out if many other married couples followed their style of fighting! The love between Avery and Grayson grows in this novella and will have you swooning into the honeymoon phase right along with them. They feel unstoppable and on top of of the world until the unimaginable happens and threatens to shatter both of their souls to their very core. It leaves their world in turmoil and they are not sure that they can even persevere through the darkness together; as they have always promised to do.R.C. has the ability to draw her readers in so that you feel every emotion that her beautiful characters feel. Every high as well as every low. This is going to be a steamy, hot, and exciting read that will pull at your heart strings.1 like ·

The bond that this couple shared, the need for each other, is the kind of love that lasts forever. When reality is hard and difficult, they not only face harsh emotions, but also learn that love sometimes have low moments and can be tricky....and I think it is at that very moment where they know the impact of their love.Greyson is the perfect husband in every possible way and Avery is a wonderful woman! These characters are incredibly perfect together, can't help but fall in love with them again and again“You’re my heart. Don’t ever forget that.”“I promise. You’re mine, too.”R.C. Mina’s Revolution, a historical saga set in Iran and the US. The story covers the life of an Iranian-American woman, before, during, and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran through to the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. Mina Sha’abani, born a year before the 1953 CIA-backed coup d’état in Iran and raised during the Shah’s White Revolution, gets involved in the Islamic Revolution in her early 20s. While pregnant with the illegitimate child of a political leader, she escapes to the US, in the hopes of a better life for herself and her child. In Los Angeles, in the midst of the hostage crisis, she faces the Americans’ animosity against her and her daughter Shirin. When she finds and meets one of her political mentors from Iran, Zary, her life begins to go through yet another series of changes and she has to make some more hard choices. Mina's Revolution is about growing up, making choices under pressure, struggling with morality issues, and finding grace against a backdrop of rebellion and revolution. It is the story of a life roiled by political and personal upheavals, the story of a woman who keeps trying to achieve inner peace while living in turbulent times.

Mina's world might be set in Iran and California, but the book's themes are universal: the innocence of children, the ideals of youth and the disillusionment that all too often follows. The maxim that politics makes strange bedfellows could hardly have a better example than in the depicted untenable union of communists and conservatives in a struggle to remove the last Shah of Iran. Mina flees her country for more than one reason. Her sense of isolation, anger and desperation are particularly palpable through the author's utilization of internal dialogue. The images presented to the reader as Mina struggles to understand a new way of life are powerful and occasionally haunting: a happy family outing that turns into embarrassment for Mina's parents for a reason unimaginable today; Mina sitting in JFK Airport for hours after missing her connecting flight, incapable of understanding the announcements; her response to the heartbreaking letter she receives from her sister advising her that returning home is no longer an option; the conclusion she reaches about herself and her daughter when she feels no alternatives remain; and a life-changing chance encounter. Before one can find happiness, one needs to define it which Mina eventually does. To say whether or not she attains it would give too much away. Those with an editor's eye might pick up a rare error here and there and New Yorkers will spot a geographical slip, but rather than being a distraction they convey the sense that Mina is a real person, capable of error, but equally capable of redemption.

I am an American woman married to an Iranian man and he has shared with me many things about his culture over the years. This book, however, gives the reader an insight into the true culture and thought process of women during and after the Iranian Revolution. Mehrnoosh Mazarei has so masterfully told the story of Mina's dreams, desires and struggles - all of which define her power to impact and keep the reader engaged. I truly believe if and when Mina's Revolution hits the big screen, it will command the praise of many from vast gender, social and political segments within our society. Until then, I will hope for a sequel.

As someone who is familiar with the community, I found it an accurate account of an Iranian woman migrating to the US after the 1979 revolution, told in an authentic language. The reading glides through. The plot keeps your interest. I gave it five star because I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested to know more about the Iranian-American community and to have a more personal account of the Iranian revolution.

By M.A. Stanley Her Last Words (previously published under the title Uprush) is a story about life, friendship and death. Four college friends get together annually to share their lives, they’ve been friends for forty years, through marriages, divorces, children, jobs and new lovers and through all the challenges and changes of life, they stand together. When they gather this time, they’re surprised and taken off guard at what transpires. One of them has a debilitating disease that will rob her of her mind and body, and she doesn’t want to stick around for it. Instead, she writes the story of her life, and she writes the stories of her dearest friends’ lives and ask that they finish their individual stories, but she also tells them how hers will end. This is an emotional tale that delves deep into the lives of these women, their failures and successes and everything in between. I really enjoyed it (even though it’s not my typical read) and would highly recommend it.Although this is a fantastic novel, I did find the editing/proofreading errors a bit distracting, however once the author addresses those, it’s a 5 star novel all the way! This book was provided to me for free for an honest and unbiased review (see all our reviews at http://www.bookexplosions.com/ or on Goodreads at https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/131875-book-explosions )

How would you end your life in the last chapter of your book By read-along-with-sue This story is about four women. The author divided up the chapters for each woman, which I found a good way of interacting and getting to know each woman in turn. We feel their emotions, we get to see inside, not only they're lives but their soul.Madge, Joan, Jackie and Lou met in college. Madge kept in touch with each of them even though they went their separate ways in life. They met up occasionally. Each one had to finish their own life story.Madge wants to finish hers by suicide and to do this she needs help from her friends. She wants her suicide to look like an accident. You can imagine how they others react to this. The next thing, Madge is missing. They fear for her. They report this to the Police however, she has to be missing for at least 24 hours before they take action. There are a whole lot of questions that need answers, as we learn that each woman is harboring a secret.Did Madge succeed in killing herself?Madge has a lover, and she has sons, what do the other three women tell them? What about the investigation? This is the first time I have read anything by this author Jo Barney, I have another book by her so will be getting on to enjoy that one too.She seems to write very good topics in a down to earth kind of way that the reader gets involved with without you even realizing it, and the time just flies by reading.I really enjoyed this.

The characters are well-written and painfully real. I loved the women. They were like old friends I’d bumped into for the first time in years. I liked the way the novel is narrated with occasional time shifts revealing each story Madge had included in her final novel, Think on These Things. This worked really well. When the author reveals what has happened to Madge and the true purpose for the women meeting at her seaside house I cried my eyes out. I really wasn’t expecting what is revealed and it felt like I’d been punched in the heart. Her Last Words is the kind of book you fall in love with which stays with you for a long time. I’ll be thinking of these women a month from now and maybe even longer.
