Relive the glory years of Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers with the nostalgic new memoir, Green & Gold Memories.

Author Roger Dier seamlessly blends poignant childhood memories growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the breathless excitement of everyone's favorite hometown team. A portrayal of Green Bay in the 1960s, Dier’s memoir tackles everything from family dynamics and school shenanigans to his days playing youth sports and building lifelong friendships with the Lemerond brothers.

But Green & Gold Memories orbits around the powerful gravity of Vince Lombardi’s football teams and the community-wide impact that the Green Bay Packers had under Lombardi's now legendary reign during the 1960s. Eventually leading his team to five National Football League titles, two Super Bowl wins, and the famous 1967 NFL Championship nicknamed "The Ice Bowl," Lombardi didn't just unite a team—he brought together a community.

Dier reveals never-before-told stories about the beloved coach through extensive interviews with those in the know, including the late Palmiro (Paul) Mazzoleni and Chuck Mercein—a player who fans might remember as the "Hero of the Ice Bowl."

Whether you're a diehard football fan or couldn't tell a quarterback from a running back, Green & Gold Memories is sure to warm your heart—and ignite the sports fan within.

From the Author This is the perfect holiday stocking stuffer for the Packers Fan in your life. If you ever wondered what the city of Green Bay and Northeast Wisconsin was like when Vince Lombardi coached the Packers, Green & Gold Memories is the book for you. Chuck Mercein, the Hero of the Ice Bowl, took Roger Dier inside Bart Starr's huddle and Vince Lombardi's locker room, and you'll be there, too. The book includes never before told stories of Lombardi interacting with the Green Bay community. The Green Bay Bobcats, the semiprofessional hockey franchise that began during Scooter McLean's infamous 1-10-1 season, is covered in depth. The author's father, Dick Dier, was a charter member of the Bobcats. Green & Gold Memories will take you back to the 1960s, a golden time to be in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Trips Down Memory Lane for Any Baby Boomer! By R. Eames Green and Gold Memories brought me back to the west side of Green Bay and my childhood growing up in titletown along with the author and many of his cast of characters. But I think this book is much more than Roger's memoirs. It's really more of an extended look back at growing up in a blue collar midwestern town when kids could roam much more feely and experience the kinds of adventures that are no longer possible. Roger deftly captures the pulse of a town whose collective hearts beat to the rhythm of Lombardi's championship teams and uses those teams and their success as the musical score for the real story of his own coming-of-age. Channeling equal parts Jean Shepherd and Shirley Povich, Dier invites the reader into the crazy adventures, lifelong friendships and sometime turbulent family dynamics that millions of baby boomers experienced as they all wrestled with growing up in a rapidly changing world that experienced advances in civil rights, the sexual revolution, the Vietnam war, and the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK all made up close and personal through the new medium of television. G&GM takes you along as the author revisits all the good and not-so-good memories of school, teachers, classmates, the neighborhood gangs, the bullies, the drinking, the smoking, the music, and the sports. Back yard sports. Little league sports. City park sports. High school sports. Sneaking into the stadium to watch the game sports. But mostly it takes you along on Roger's journey into adulthood and away from Green Bay, profoundly shaped by all of it but free to become the man of his choosing.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Green & Gold Memories Become Your Own Memories By Jeff Roznowski Roger Dier and Green & Gold Memories provides an exceptional illustration of growing up and coming of age in 1960s middle America. As a product myself of Green Bay and that era, and as a Green Bay Packer fan, Roger was not only describing his memories but also my memories and likely those of many children in the pre-technology age. Roger vividly captured the simplicity of friends jumping on their bikes, marking their favorite territory and exploring, learning and growing. He also memorably dissects a child's loving and often complicated relationships with his parents and siblings, loving and fighting, defending and challenging.Intersperced within his boyhood hijinks, Roger interweaves tales of the legendary Lombardi-led Packers. He captures the love of players for a coach and the love of a city for its team, impressively offering untold stories about long forgotten but important contributors such as Chuck Mercein. The writing of the two parallel paths of growing up and football is a seamless and often connected weave, providing the reader with double the entertainment.Roger has an artistic talent for painting with his prose, visually capturing the environment of the moment, making you an invisible witness to his memories, much like the invisible man in a game of cicero. If you know what a davenport is or what sweet rolls are, if you remember being tuned, if you were ever in a fight or hugged your mom, if you have a favorite team you cheer for, Roger Dier's Green & Gold Memories will bring constant smiles to your face and unearth your own long forgotten memories.

What a great snapshot of history and autobiographical account of boyhood adventures culminating into adulthood. Roger has an extraordinary talent of weaving threads of memories into a fine tapestry-a colorful story of life, lessons and love. A gentle smile held my face from the first to the last word, sans a few stories in between of which you will understand upon reading. Lombardi, the Golden Years, the Packers, baby boomer real life experiences are expertly portrayed in this book. You don't need to be a Packer fan nor a resident of Green Bay to appreciate the boyhood tales and lessons learned (by the author and his readers) in this book. Each chapter is worth more than the price of this book. "...A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile...."

PDF Ebook Online NEVEREST New Insights: Inside Scott Fischer's Mountain Madness Expedition (Mountain Mania Book 1), by Nick van der Leek

In 2006 freelance photojournalist and amateur climber Nick van der Leek wrote a five page analysis of the 1996 Everest disaster titled MOUNTAIN MADNESS, and published in HEARTLAND magazine. His distillation was described at the time by THE CLIMB co-author, Weston DeWalt, as ‘the clearest exposition of the 1996 disaster I have ever seen’. Now, nine years later, having honed his penmanship within the rigors and deceits of the True Crime genre, Nick van der Leek is taking on the Everest narrative once more but with a fresh approach. Compared to his 2006 article, NEVEREST is a much larger and deeper analysis of the events leading up to ‘the deadliest day on Mount Everest [May 10]. Van der Leek makes no bones about the purpose of this narrative: “We’ll be treating the 1996 disaster as a criminal investigation; and the mountain itself as a crime scene.” From this unique and fascinating vantage point the reader is dragged back into a deadly ‘storm over Everest’, one that brings readers and amateur climbers face to face with something more terrifying than the mountain itself. What are the motives of the men climbing the world’s tallest mountain? What Van der Leek manages to achieve in NEVEREST is to show the naked ambition and base morality of many of the men and women who returned from the dismal heights to a hero’s welcome. What if some of them weren’t heroes? Using the psychology ‘it takes a thief to catch a thief’ professional photojournalist and one time climber of Kilimanjaro, Nick van der Leek demystifies the heroism of climbing. “The question is whether climbing a real mountain is an authentic process towards growing ones symbolic self, and the question is whether climbing the world’s highest mountain means accessing the highest parts of the self.” Would we climb that mountain if there were no picture taken at the top? Would we still push for the summit if it meant coming back and not telling a soul? By following the narrative of the MOUNTAIN MADNESS team, Van der Leek investigates and cross references what Scott Fischer’s mostly American crew and clients did right as opposed to their rivals on Everest: Adventure Consultants [five members of Hall’s team died on the mountain including Rob Hall]. As Van der Leek pursues an explanation to account for this incongruity he finds and then mines the golden thread buried within the great mountain. Were the teams locked in a deadly rivalry, or did they just run out of oxygen and time? Was it the weather or human error or the result of something else? What role did hubris play in Everest’s deadliest day, and what role does it play in your life?

25 of 27 people found the following review helpful. feels like the publication was rushed By Emilie Robinson Ive read over 20 books on the Everest Disaster of 1996. Obviously these cover conflicting views and opinions and I have been open to suggestions as to why certain things occured. This book was by far the worst book I have read on the disaster. It feels as if it were rushed into print to benefit from the Everest (movie) hype. Whilst it assumes the air of taking a courtroom analysis of the situation (which i thought would be interesting), it reads almost like an essay by a teenager. Im not familiar with words like 'kinda' being used in a legal sense, and the overuse of profanity as a means of description is bizarre. He over analyses sentences in other 96 writings to uncover hidden meanings and pounces on inconsistencies (admittedly there are many) Yet in his own writing there are factual errors. He quotes characters in the Everest movie as if it were recorded live on the day, and not a movie that clearly required some artistic license (epecially when it comes to conversations that occured)It seems the writers personal view towards Jon Krakauer have biased his book considerably. Personally I do not think Krakauers book is entirely accurate (how can any be, as they are all written from different perspectives) but this writer is almost obsessed with discrediting him. Finally I think the criticisms of peoples responses on the day are unfair. Guide Mike Groom is criticized for not mounting a search and yet he has just helped rescue people to the point of the South Col and actually is said to pass out once he reaches his tent. Im not sure how one is expected to organize a search party whilst physically drained to the point of passing out. Others are criticized for only searching the immediate area of the tents. The explaination many of these men give is that in blizzard like conditions they felt they would endanger their own safety in venturing further than that.I agree that ideally more could have and should have been done in some cases on the day. Certainly mistakes were made in the planning, on the day, and in the rescue. But it is impossible to determine what those scared, exhausted people were facing unless you were actually there.I think that with time and editing this could be a great book. But as it currently stands I found it a frustrating and disappointing read

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Another perspective. By Jeff Job This is the third book I've read on the disaster and each one offers different insights on the others.I thought the Russian guide was harshly and unfairly criticized in Jon's book inferring he was cowardly and selfish for descending before the clients. This book gives info that correctly describes his actions and motives that I thought were wise and justified. What I didn't like about this book is the author using foul language and I thought at times it read like a snarky tabloid article thereby injecting his contempt on various characters in the story.Very good read and I recommend this book.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Excellent read!!!! By Laura McMahon Van der Leek dissects the events surrounding the 1996 Everest tragedy and presents the facts as a lawyer would present evidence to a jury. I appreciate this style of writing as it provided me with detailed background on the individuals involved as well as a narrative, from an experienced climber, that illuminated potential catastrophic mistakes made by members from both Mountain Madness and Adventure Consultants. I have read many books regarding this climb and they all generally follow the same format, they blame one side or the other. I was relieved to see that Neverest investigated the accountability of climbers on both teams. I couldn’t put the book down. I look forward to reading the next collaboration between Nick Van der Leek and Lisa Wilson.

Thunder is an alpha that wants more and has found a family after trying to escape the past. He is a gentle giant except in the bedroom. Thunder can produce lightning and start a fire in the sheets. And boy does she find one when aging beauty queen Miranda DuBois bursts into the room - drunk, disorderly, and packing a pistol.

Miranda's wrinkles have seen better days, and she blames it all on Dr. Sonja. Luckily, Andy calms her down and gets her home...where she's found dead the next morning. The police suspect suicide, but Andy knows that no former pageant girl would give up that easily. She's determined to find Miranda's killer herself, but she'll have to be careful. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. McBride's best book yet By Armchair Interviews I'm upset at Avon Books. They've decided to shake up their mystery line and have dropped one of my favorite cozy writers, Susan McBride. And that, dear readers, is why this review is so late in coming. I got my hands on a galley copy of Too Pretty to Die in November 2007 and voraciously read Andy Kendricks latest escapade cover to cover in three nights.Too Pretty To Die is the fifth and final installment of the Debutante Dropout Mystery series. Maybe that's a good things because it seems that dropout debs are turning up everywhere in the bios of a host of young writers-like Cornelia Read. But always keep in mind that Susan McBride was the first to write about a woman named Andy who was just too hard-headed to do what her Momma wanted. This time, Andy gets dragged to a "pretty party" by her society reporter friend Janet, who is looking for the big story that will save her career. At this party the Dallas elite get Botoxed as they drink champagne and backstab each other. In stumbles Dallas' most beautiful new anchor, Miranda DuBouis, and takes a pot shot at the doctor with the magic needles. It seems that something went astray during Miranda's last visit to Dr. Madhavi and her face is so deformed that her career may well be over.Andy, in a gesture of compassion and an overabundant need to get the heck out of Dodge-and back to her dude whom she left sleeping in her bed-drives the drunk Miranda home and leaves her snoring it off. Then Miranda turns up dead and Andy becomes "the last person to see Miranda Dubois" alive.Too Pretty To Die is an easy read with enough twists to keep me guessing who did it. It is also McBride's best-written book yet. Readers who follow McBride can see her become a better writer with each book. Still, unlike Miranda, McBride's career is not over. She's signed with Delacourt and is busily fulfilling a contract with books about debs for a young adult audience.Armchair Interviews says: McBride is a good storyteller.

Doctor Sonja Madhavi and Lance Zarimba, her boyfriend/aesthetician, show up with their "Botox in the Box" kit full of syringes and give little samples to each party guest. Few attend these parties and never show up at the Pretty Place boutique for treatments afterward. Former socialite Andrea "Andy" Kendricks would rather have a root canal than attend one, but attend she did. It was a favor to her close friend Janet Graham, a society reporter for the Park City Paper (PCP). And the juiciest story in the area drops into Janet's lap when aging beauty queen Miranda DuBois slams into the room full of alcohol, rage, and a small gun. Miranda is a star anchorwoman and went to the good doctor for just a tad of face work. Unfortunately, Miranda had "an adverse reaction to the wrinkle filler". Luckily the only thing hit by the bullet is a Picasso. Andy calms Miranda down and takes her home to bed. The next morning Miranda is found dead. The last thing Andy wants is to be dragged into another gut-wrenching drama. However, Miranda's mother is out of the country and the police think the death is by suicide. So Cissy Blevins Kendricks, Queen Bee of Dallas Society (a.k.a. Andy's mother), is named trustee of all Miranda's possessions. Add to this that Miranda's mother insists Cissy hire someone to conduct an independent autopsy (to draw his own conclusions separate and apart from the M.E.) as well as a private investigator. To make matters go from bad to worse, Cissy and the deputy have an argument, which everyone hears because the microphone was still on by mistake, so everyone knows that Andy was the last known person to see Miranda alive AND hears Cissy's claim (a.k.a. lie) that Andy has proof it was not suicide! Here we go again ...***** This is one fun and sassy read. Only Susan McBride can create such an amusing mystery that simply overflows with ... ah, tea and vinegar. The Debutante Dropout Mystery Series just seems to get better and better. This is not one to miss! *****Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Bell Too Pretty to Die is a sad commentary on the importance of beauty both in the world of television and also in everyday life. Miranda DuBois is a true beauty, pageant queen, and television anchor. But she has passed the magic "30" mark and is concerned about her future on the tube, particularly as she has received some anonymous viewer emails commenting on the deterioration of her looks. So she goes to Dr. Sonja Madhavi, celebrity skin doctor, toast of Dallas. And her botox is botched, leaving her with a twitchy eye and a droopy mouth. So, drunk and brandishing a gun, she crashes a "Pretty Party" and threatens Dr. Madhavi.Coincidentally Andy is there at the behest of her friend and society reporter Janet Graham. Andy, Janet, Miranda, and the hostess are all former schoolmates as well. They manage to subdue her and Andy takes her home to sleep it off. Thinking it's safe to leave her, she goes home to Brian. But the next morning Miranda is dead. The police are sure it's suicide. But her laptop and cell phone are missing. Andy's mother, society maven Cissy, a good friend of Miranda's mother, doesn't believe it's suicide. Neither does Andy. And Janet comes to agree with them.Cissy brings in an expert to do a post-mortem and hires a detective, Milton Fletcher, who is 35, handsome, an ex-Navy SEAL, and drives a Porsche Boxter when not on a case. (BTW Boxter is misspelled throughout the book!) If Andy weren't in love with Brian, Fletch would be so her type!Clues lead Andy to the Caviar Club, which is not a gourmet group--or at least not a gourmet FOOD group! All dressed up with hair and makeup perfect, the gorgeous Andy sets off to find the secrets of this hush-hush gathering of the beautiful (&/or very rich) people. And she does discover the motive for the murder, a somewhat pathetic one that gives the reader a little sympathy for the killer. At the end, there is a surprise for Andy. Make that two surprises, as Cissy has one for her as well.I've enjoyed this book because Andy acts more intelligent than in most of the others and has started to reach a certain amount of understanding of her mother, a character I absolutely love.I have not seen a 6th book advertised on Amazon as yet. I do hope there will be one.

Professional wrestling has a long and storied history that has been shaped by events that, had they played out differently, would have led to a vastly different wrestling business than the one that exists today. The choices made along the way haven't always been the right ones, but for better or worse, they've been directly responsible for the wrestling world as we know it. How might things have changed had those situations played out differently? What if Vince McMahon bought WCW in 1998 instead of Ted Turner? What if the NWO was never formed? How about if WCW survived past March of 2001? How could WWE have been rebuilt after the failure of the WCW/ECW InVasion? Buy this book and find out! This book also includes the following bonus features, covering three of the worst storylines ever: -The Undertaker's 2002 Heel Turn -Sgt. Slaughter: Iraqi Sympathizer -The Ultimate Warrior's 1998 WCW Run
